Our Powerline Adapters are securely paired to each other and can be used straight out of the box. Just follow the simple steps below to set them up. We offer two different types of adapters, which are either black or white.

You can connect TalkTalk Powerline Adapters to any device that can make a wired connection using an Ethernet cable, like desktop computers, laptops and some games consoles like Xbox 360.
If you have a big house with thick walls and you have trouble picking up wireless in certain parts of the house, or you simply can’t find an Ethernet cable that’s long enough, a Powerline Adapter could be the perfect way to increasing the range of your router.
You can set up your Powerline Adapters by following the steps below:
- Plug one adapter into a socket close to your router
- Connect one end of the yellow Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on your Powerline Adapter
- Plug the other end into one of the yellow sockets at the back of the router where it says LAN
- Switch on the power at the socket (and press the adapters On/Off button if you are using a white TalkTalk Powerline Adapter)
- Plug the second adapter into a socket close to the device you’d like to connect to the internet, ensuring you plug into the same circuit in the home
- Using the second yellow Ethernet cable, connect one end to the Ethernet port on the Powerline Adapter
- Plug the other end into the Ethernet port on the device you’d like to connect to the internet
- Switch the power on at the socket (and press the adapter’s On/Off button if you’re using a white TalkTalk Powerline Adapter)
Your Powerline Adapters are now set up.
When connected your setup should look like this:
You may be wondering what the lights on the front of your adapter mean, so we’ve provided you with a brief description:
Status Indicator
Solid: The adapter is connected to a Powerline network
Blinking: The adapter is transmitting data
Off: The adapter has not found any compatible Powerline devices
The colour indicates the speed of the connection between the Powerline Adapters.
Colour | Description |
---|---|
Green | The speed is faster than 80 Mbps |
Amber | The speed is between 50 Mbps and 80 Mbps |
Red | The speed is less than 50 Mbps |

You can use as many Powerline Adapters as you like in your home, and if you wish to buy additional adapters please visit the TalkTalk shop. Please note, we recommend adding the same type of Powerline Adapters to your network as you already have, because adding non-TalkTalk Powerlines to existing TalkTalk Powerlines may affect performance.
To connect your additional Powerlines, you will need to use the Pair button (black Powerlines) or Security Button (white Powerlines). Follow the simple steps below:
Unpair existing Powerline Adapters
Before you can connect your additional Powerline Adapters, you will need to unpair your existing adapters, and then pair them again to create a new network.
- Press and hold the pair/security button on Powerline A for 10 seconds and release when the power LED flashes.
- Press and hold the pair/security button on Powerline B for 10 seconds and release when the power LED flashes.
Powerlines A and B are now unpaired and ready to be connected.
Connecting your Powerline Adapters
- Press and hold the pair/security button on Powerline A for 2 seconds then release. The power LED will flash.
- Within 2 minutes, press and hold the pair/security button on Powerline B for 2 seconds then release. Powerlines A and B are now connected.
- Press and hold the pair/security button on Powerline C for 10 seconds and release when the power LED flashes. The Powerline is now ready to be connected to the existing network.
- Press and hold the pair/security button on Powerline A for 2 seconds and release. The Power LED will flash.
- Within 2 minutes, press and hold the pair/security button on Powerline C for 2 seconds then release. Powerlines A, B and C are now connected.
To add more Powerlines to your network, simply repeat steps 3-5 above.
Troubleshooting Tips
If you're experiencing an issue getting your additional Powerline Adapters to work try these steps:
- Press the pair/security button on one adapter for 2-3 seconds (the Power LED will start blinking after you release the button). Within 2 minutes press the pair/security button on the second adapter for between 2-3 seconds.
- Press the Reset button (using a pin) on each adapter for 1 second. Then repeat step 1.
